There are many home remedies to quiet a squeaky alternator or Power Steering belt. But a squeaking belt is usually a sign that should not be ignored.
It generally means that...
a. The belt is loose & should be tightened
b. The belt has aged and hardened and should be replaced
or
c. Something has gone wrong in the alternator / power steering / whatever and is putting more drag into the system than normal... and should be replaced.
So rather than putting soap on the belt (which will make it slip even more in moist weather), i recommend tightening or replacing it & keeping an eye on whatever is being powered by it.
although you may use a bar of soap to dress the underside of the belt, there is available a dressing for this purpose but check the belt for wear and stretch, you may need another one.
