Sort of. They can jump downwards but not upwards.

Some people have tried to stop bedbugs living under the floor in their home getting into their bed and biting them by putting a very sticky slippery substance on the bed legs. They think by doing that the bedbugs will not be able to get up to them while they are asleep. They are wrong.

In such cases bedbugs can just climb up the wall and then jump from there or from the ceiling on to the bed and then crawl under the duvet and bite the person while he or she is fast asleep in it. The bedbug may then establish its new base in the bed structure or in the mattress above the bed's legs.

So that "jump" has enabled the bedbug to acquire a new host and a new regular supply of food and a new bed to breed in.

How bedbugs are transported

No, bed bugs do not jump. They like to hid in cracks and crevices. Bed bugs do not like light so they only come out when its dark out. Making it hard to search for and inspect.

On one website it say that the most frequent way bed bugs are transported to a new location is in infested items such beds or bedding, luggage, used furniture, and clothing.

Bedbugs do not hop, but they are very resourceful when it comes to feeding. They are known to crawl up walls and onto ceilings and then drop down to feed. Put any clothes or bedsheets into a dryer on high for about 20 minutes. Use detergent and the hottest settings in your washer when washing clothes.

Heat (steamers work well or even a hair dryer on hottest settings) and isopropyl alcohol (Walmart usually has big bottles of 90+% alcohol pretty cheap) are cheap ways to control them. Make sure you get into every seam in your mattress. Plastic bed encasements are also pretty cheap at a local supercenter. Whatever you try, know that it will take weeks to eliminate the eggs that may have been missed in early treatments, so don't give up! I got rid of them and so can you.

Also, please do not leave infested furniture out on the street. It is very counter-productive to infect your neighbors.

Bed bugs are little blood sucking bugs that ruin's a perfectly good bed. Yes bed bugs can hop but not very far they usually just crawl all over us when we are sleeping. If you have bed bugs better do something about them because that is gross if you don't. Also bag up everything and was it all or just get new things and make your its everything like pillows, stuffed animals, clothes, all that stuff

Bed bugs don't jump or fly. You can pick up bed bugs from anywhere that they are. They can be on the bottom of your shoes, they get in your shoes, they can attach by brushing up again fabric that has them on it. They can get inside your pants, socks, shirt, underwear, bra, etc. They are quite the hitchhikers.
