not sure wat is considered too long but my period lasted over 15 days one time and the doctors gave me birth control to stop it. i jus had to take 2 pills a day instead of 1 a day. it really did help. and I've been on birth control ever since ( taking one a day now) and my periods are regular 5 days now. :)
