Your question asks for an opinion. My opinion is no, it would not be. Places that have outlawed private ownership of firearms have had INCREASES in violent crime. This is due, at least in part, in the loss of the ability of law abiding people to defend themselves. This would be similar to dealing with drunk driving by outlawing the ownership of cars.
Private citizens are already allowed to own firearms. There are some limitations and they vary from state to state, even county to county. But in general there are very few places where you are not allowed to have a firearm in America.

Firearms are objects. They have no more legal standing than your armchair. In certain countries firearms are legal in others there are restrictions on the type of firearms citizens may own. It depends on the legislation of the country you are referring to
