Coke as in Coca Cola was originally sold as a medicine for earaches. It did not go over so good as a medicine but was popular and still is as a soft drank. It did originally have coke the drug as an ingredient, which is how the drug got it's nickname. The drug was later removed from the recipe.

The formula for Coke is a registered trademark and it is strictly enforced by the company for quality and consistency. There would be no difference between the formula of the product from Atlanta Georgia USA to Amsterdam. If you want to ask for a Coke in Dutch "mag ik een flesje Coca-Cola alstublieft?"
