Yes; if the soul has not found rest, or ascended to heaven, all disembodied spirits can. Its not a question of whether THEY can hear US, but whether WE can hear THEM. The only way most people can talk to the dead, is through dreams; disembodied spirits, can only communicate with others via dreams. You need to pay attention to the color scheme; a person dressed all in black, represents the soul of an extremely malicious individual. If a person is dressed in flowing white robes, so often stereotyped with angels and heaven, then, in life, they were good people. Furthermore if you have had a grandparent who has died you may not recognize them; when a soul ascends to heaven, the way that soul will represent that person, is when they were young. So, you had a grandparent who died, and you dreamt about a beautiful young woman or handsome young man, odds are that was your grandfather or grandmother when they were young. Again; unless you know, very well, what your grandparents looked like in their youth, if they die, and they appear in your dreams you may not recognize them, because obviously the vast majority of modern day people are accustomed to seeing their grandparents only in their old age. Most people are shocked to hear this, but its true; souls that ascend to heaven, are represented in a youthful manner, not in their old age. Malevolent souls, will appear dressed all in black, exactly as they died; by exactly I mean, whatever their age was.

No. They are dead and their bodies have stopped working entirely.Their body dies. But there spirit... Who knows.
