When I was little my mom always used Ivory bar soap. My sister-in-law swears by dial bar or liquid. I think its the soup changing the density of the water and drowning the fleas. I'm sure some kinds of soap drys out the animals skin though.

you can bathe her in dawn dish soap. Flea shampoos are harmful to her puppies but you definitely have to get rid of the fleas because the pups will become anemic but dawn will kill the fleas and its safe.
