Just check the rules and regulations of your organization to see if ephedrine is a banned substance. Ephedrine is not illegal in the United States. However, it cannot be marketed as a supplement for weight loss. It can only be sold as a bronchodilator in packaging where each pill is individually packed. It is widely held that ephedrine can cause a false positive for amphetamines, however, because the two are chemically similar.

Some prescription diet pills will show up on drug tests, as they contain chemicals very similar to or identical to amphetamines.
Over-the-counter diet pills probably would not show up, however.

∙ 14y agoIt depends what is in the diet pills. Methampetamine, or amphetamines are often in some prescription diet pills. Meth and amphetamine will be detectable in human urine for about 5 days, depending on the person's PH value (how acidic or alkaline is their urine).

Caffeine and ephedra do not show on most workplace drug tests. Amphetamines, cocaine, and other stimulants will show up on a workplace drug test.
