A heavily infested animal, over time, can lose a substantial amount of blood to fleas. This is mostly the case in very young or frail animals. 70 fleas can consume 1 mL of blood per day which could kill a puppy or kitten in 50 days. Double the number of fleas and the young animal can be dead in a month. They lose so many red blood cells to the fleas that they become anemic and die.

∙ 15y agoYes, fleas can make any animal sick. They carry diseases that are spread into the animal's blood stream. Kitten cannot be treated with typical flea products, though - too strong for little ones. The best treatment is a bath using Suave Mountain Strawberry shampoo. That particular formula kills the fleas and the sink will be filled with dead fleas. Our vet's assistant told us about this and it really works!!

∙ 15y agoIt is dangerous. It is because a kitten doesn't have as much blood as an adult cat. It is still dangerous for adult cats too. If a kitten has fleas they can become anemic and get tapeworm. Adult cats can get tapeworm also. If your cat has fleas, give them a flea bath and use a flea treatment afterwards. then use flea bombs in your house to kill them.

∙ 14y agoThey could possibly die from fleas, but there has to be a lot of fleas on the kitten, because the kitten is very small, and it doesn't have enough blood yet that can be taken away by the fleas, so it would just be death by blood loss.
