yes I just took my 10 month old boxer puppy to the ve this morning 8/20/08 with a 103.8 temp and they found foreign objects in her stomach. a black string and a piece of metal. They have induced her to vomiting with berhum. Hoping she will be ok and no surgury. If you suspect your dog has swallowed anything besides food, especially long string, long metal objects, magnets, of any size, or batteries, you need to take your dog to the vet ASAP! Don't wait for a fever, that is a symptom of something wrong! You need to take them before their body is in trouble. The fever can be a signal of many things wrong, but having foreign matter inside your gut would cause it, definitly. The vet can X-ray and see what they have swallowed and then take the proper steps to try and help your dog in the best way, depending on the shape and size of the object swallowed. This is always best handled before the object gets into the intestines, once there, the risk to your dog increases horribly. You need to go to the VET as soon you become suspious, or, when you see them swallow the object.
Foreign objects in the stomach or guts will usually cause a great degree of pain, which will cause the dog to pant heavily. They will usually be painful when their abdomen is gently squeezed, and will tend to vomit repeatedly. If you notice any of these signs with the panting it is important to take your dog to the vet immediately; it may not be a foreign body, but if it is then any delay in treatment (removal) can be fatal.
Dogs can also pant heavily due to heat, excitement or excercise.
If the dog has a stomach ache, it may be due to one of the following problems: Food intolerance, as the dog's system rejects certain ingredients and may not react well when these ingredients are introduced Ingestion of foreign objects, which can hurt the stomach lining or cause an intestinal occlusion Intestinal worms, which may cause stomach or intestinal distress Liver problems, when the liver is swollen Inflammation of the pancreas Kidney problems Stomach ulcers, which can be painful Stomach tumors Constipation The ingestion of contaminated water, causing bacterial infections United Nations Farms
Anything that penetrates, punctures, tears/rips the abdominal skin and penetrates to the organs can cause an abdominal wound. If you mean only the stomach (the organ), you can also acquire wounds if something sharp or a foreign body was swallowed/ingested and got stuck in the stomach organ and could not pass into the small intestines. Additionally, chemical ingestion (including drugs) can cause stomach lining erosion, thus creating a "wound" in the stomach lining. Even a simple stomach ulcer (which can be serious/life threatening), can cause a "wound" to the lining of the stomach and can perforate (break through) the stomach wall.
A foreign object in the blood refers to any material that is not normally present in the bloodstream, such as a piece of metal, a clot, or a medication residue. These foreign objects can cause health issues such as blockages, inflammation, or infections if not addressed.
For some people drinking cold water can cause stomach cramps because the temperature difference constricts the blood vessels in the stomach lining. If this happens that can cause some individuals stomachs to tighten and cramp up. There will be a time before the water temperature equalizes with the body temperature and this can cause problems with some people with sensitive stomachs. For these folks it's best to drink warm water instead.
