Yes, friction exists whenever two objects touch. Friction is caused by two effects: direct contact of mechanical surface irregularities and the electromagnetic force. It has nothing at all to do with the gravitational force, the strong force, or the weak force.

YES. While most friction on Earth is as a result of the normal force, which is a result of gravity, any form of acceleration which pushes two surfaces into contact will result in friction. For example, imagine two spaceships in outer space. If they rub against one another, there will be friction, but there is no discernible amount of gravity between the spaceships.

Weight would not exist without gravity.

Can you slide without friction?

Friction will always exist. There is no way for friction not to exist. Even in the dead of space, the occasional hydrogen molecule will bump against you, causing friction.

Is sliding friction caused by the attraction between two surfaces?

Yes. Without sliding friction or rolling friction, we would not be able to walk. It is the relationship between gravity, friction, and mass.

Does a friction free machine exist?

No, Scientists have tried to create surfaces without friction but it has been deemed an impossible feat.

Why is friction useful?

friction is useful because without it we wouldn't be able to walk or do anything for that matter. friction lets us grip onto things with the help of gravity

What happens if you throw a rock where gravity and friction have no influence?

If no force (gravity, friction, or any other force) acts on an object, it will continue moving indefinitely, without changing its velocity (i.e., speed and direction).

What is the name of the force that can move things without touching them?

Gravity- or for some things, magnetism.

Can gravity exist without a magnatic field?

It can, and it does. There's no connection between the two.

How does gravity affect a Nascar race car?

Without gravity, and friction the race car would be flying everywhere and would slide off of the track.
