They would attack only the master (you) but not the follower, instead the other gods (Guthix, Saradomin, Armadyl and Bandos) followers would attack the bird.But, Zamorak followers will defend the bird by attacking the other god followers.It's also stated that if you're wearing a god symbol, they would be less inclined to attack.
