No. Geothermal energy just uses the natural heat and hot rocks under the ground to heat water, often hot enough to make steam. This steam is then used to spin a generator, producing electricity. There is no carbon pollution resulting.

How much CO2 is put in the atmosphere each year?

100,000,000

Heat built up inside the earth is called?

this is a bad search place cause if i wanted to i could put something dumb so dont use this

How does the ocean affect the rate of accumulation of CO2 in the atmosphere?

Oceans act as a carbon sink, in fact they are the largest carbon sink absorbing about 1/4 of the CO2 we put into the air. However, with global warming considering that CO2 dissolves better in cold water there is a worry that the oceans will not be able to hold as much CO2 and will begin to release it into the atmosphere

What makes geothermal energy a good alternative source of electric power?

There are so many advantages of hydrothermal energy. The main advantage is that this is a form of green energy which does not pollute the environment and it is also sustainable among other advantages.

How is geothermal energy harnessed for energy?

There are two ways of using geothermal energy.1: There is domestic geothermal, where it is used locally to apply heat to your house or water heater. This is done by pumping water underground through pipes. The deeper underground the water is, the warmer the water will get by the use of the magma heating the earth underground. This can only be done in some locations, and is mainly used locally. So it does not make electricity, just uses the heat from underground.2: There are the big geothermal corporations, where they send water through pipes deep underground, where the water is heated by the magma. This causes the water to change phase, and become steam. The steam is then pressurized, and then put through turbines to make electricity.

Who discovered geothermal energy?

The paleo-Indians of North America used geothermal energy 10,000 years ago to cook food. In the 18th century Italy used geothermal energy for industrial purposes, but the first geothermal power plant was put in in 1913.

Why is the atmosphere warming?

The atmosphere is warming because the extra carbon dioxide (CO2) in the greenhouse gases of the atmosphere is holding in more of the sun's heat. There is extra CO2 in the atmosphere because by burning coal, oil and natural gas (fossil fuel) we have released CO2 that had been safely concealed underground for millions of years. This has put pressure on the carbon cycle which has not been able to remove it.

Can geothermal power harm the environment?

No. By using geothermal heat to produce power you do not need to burn fossil fuel to run generators and thereby reduce the amount of green house gases and other pollutants being put in the atmosphere.

Can you eliminate carbon dioxide from the atmosphere?

When there is enough vegetation and a balanced amount of CO2 being put in the atmosphere, there will be a perfect balance. CO2 is necessary in our atmosphere but just like anything else, too much of anything is not good. Vegetation (plants) use CO2 for the process of Photosynthesis (the production os starches and sugars) and emit Oxygen as a by product. You just cannot eliminate CO2, just like Nitrogen, it is a gas that is essential to mankind's survival.

Where is geothermal energy found?

geothermal energy was found in italy. no specific person found it, though. it was a group of people who disovered it. it was found in the year of 1904.and we have been using it since then.there is a whole process in it. magma gets pulled through these drilling wells. and well then water gets through it and then the water gets turned into steam.and then the staem gets put into the turbine and then it generates the generator. and then generator therefor works the wires and it creates electricity.

If geothermal energy is stored in the ground then how do they get it out?

You drill a hole and put in a pipe. The best location for a geothermal power plant is a place where the heat is near the surface: Places with hot springs and geysers, or even volcanoes.See related links.

Is the Carbon dioxide changing by the same amount each year?

The current level of CO2 in our atmosphere is 390 parts per million. We are now releasing CO2 at astonishing rates into our atmosphere, so to answer your question no. More Carbon Dioxide is being put into our atmosphere each year. There is an average, but that has gone up in the past few decades.

What kinds of things put more CO2 into the air?

Volcanism -- volcanoes -- are the greatest source of atmospheric CO2. After this, in varying degrees, are animal respiration, human energy generation, and transportation.
