A gerbil's diet mainly consists of vegetables and nuts (the kind of stuff you see in gerbil mix). While they do not eat meat per-say, gerbil are omnivores and when in the wild gerbils do eat small insects and grubs. Many gerbil mixes you buy at pet stores artificially add protein to supplement this part of their diet. In short, don't try feeding them beef.
i tried giving my gerbils meat and they wont eat it and also onions , challots and baked beans can destroy red blood cells

∙ 15y agoYes, they can. I know hamsters can, but if they can, I'm sure gerbils can. But for god's sake do not feed them chocolate, onions, or green onions!!
