Any animal can starve to death with sufficient nourishment.
Any creature will starve to death if not given sufficient food. Guinea pigs are cage-animals and cannot obtain their own nourishment; they are helpless to do so and it is their owner's or carer's responsibility to ensure any caged animal is kept clean, healthy and safe, and has sufficient food and water at all times. If you buy such an animal as a pet for a child, it is your responsibility to ensure the animal is properly cared for, since you must not rely upon a child to take responsibility for a pet.
