Yes. I would run a wire brush over the threads, to clean them up, and, do not forget to put Permatex, the brown liquid, on the threads, as they go into water jackets.
17 per head 34 in all
It will be on the right side of the block where the head bolts on. with right head on engine the block will stick out a little bit in the front the # will be right there. may have to clean or sand block to read.
on the back of the block where the belt housing bolts on and also on the front in front of the passenger side head there is a ledge that has a number there unless the block has been decked
i just removed the heads in my 70' Chevy Monte Carlo. its a small block so i had to remove 17 head bolts. big blocks however are differrent. so it depends on the size engine you have.
Which head bolts need asealant applied to them on a 454 big block?
That is NORMAL. The head bolts go stright into the water jackets on all Chevy engines.
Do not use sealant on the head gasket. I use permatex on the threads of the bolts that go into water jackets.
yes you need to replace head bolts
The bolts that go from bell housing to block on a 5.7 (350 c.i.d.) are 3/8 bolts. standard thread with a 9/16 head. The bolts should be no shorter than 1 inch and no longer than 1 1/4 inch.
How many bolts are on the 454 1984 chevy
If the head is removed you must always replace the bolts.
