It's the best place, once the wine is opened. But be aware that red wine deteriorates rapidly in the refrigerator, becoming very tartric in only a few days. White wine will last a week or more after opening if kept refrigerated.

Yes, and my folk's don't even put it in the fridge. It stays good on the counter, shelf, whatever.
