How long before methadone works after suboxone?

suboxone has a long halflife about 23hours. day one you will feel no other opiates. day two you will feel them kick in then the suboxone stopping the opiate from working. day three you can begin to feel the full effect of other opiates. be careful not to take more trying to feel the other opiates. eventhough suboxone has naloxone in it, you can still overdose.

I'm on suboxone and will be having surgery soon. My question is will I go into withdrawal if given iv opiates during surgery?

If you are given opiates, then of course you won't.Withdrawal happens when people are not given their class of medications.

Does methadone have a opiate blocker in it?

Unlike actual opioid antagonists (such as naltrexone and naloxone), which bind to opioid receptors, preventing binding by opiates (thus, blocking opiates and their effects), methadone only partially blocks other opiates. Methadone is an opioid agonist, meaning that it binds with and activates opioid receptors. However, during the time that it occupies the opioid receptor, it competes with other opiates, and prevents them from binding. While, at a receptor level, this produces a partial "blocking" effect, the overall availability of methadone throughout the system would have to be significant enough to produce this effect everywhere in order to truly "block" other opiates. So, the short answer is: partially

How long after taking methadone does it take to feel an opiate high again?

Depending on the dosage, methadone can block the effects of opiates for up to 4-days. During this time, the methadone fills up the opiate receptors. When the receptors are filled with methadone, the opiates cannot stimulate the receptors, therefore blocking the effects of the opiates.

What kind of opiate blocker are there?

methadonealso Narcan (right now used mostly in a pilot program in Massachusetts), Suboxone, and Subutex.Methadone is a HUGE commitment -you must get into a clinic (most have waiting lists)have your insurance approved (even with insurance there can be a copay, some BCBS plans are $20/day copay.go daily to a methadone clinic to receive your dose. It is a liquid dispensed by machine that you must drink and then drink water before leaving the clinic. If there is not a clinic near you, it could mean travel as well. Remember this is daily, so that means going to the clinic 7 days a week, on weekends, holidays, etc. There is also mandatory counseling and group and random drug testing. If the program is followed people can earn "take home" doses for anywhere from one day to 7 days at a time. Depending on the clinic this can take over a year to earn (and it can be taken away for a failed drug test, missing group, etc). Most clinics are only open in the morning - 8am-10:30am are the ones around here. Obviously this can interfere with work schedules.Vacations away require finding another clinic in that area who will accept a temporary person, getting approval and paperwork from both clinics and paying a set-up fee and daily fee to the temporary clinic.Suboxone is comes in pill form and it is dispensed monthly from local pharmacies like other prescriptions written by a Dr. This is the most common pill but it is easy to fail with this approach. You have to take the pill on your own every day. Oftentimes addicts will sell them in exchange for drugs or will only use them as a back-up. If drugs can't be bought for whatever reason, Suboxone is a back-up for withdrawal until the next fix.Subutex is a little less popular than Suboxone but many Dr.'s still prescribe it. It also comes in a 30 day pill prescription. This is commonly prescribed during pregnancy because it have the least amount of side effect to the baby. There are more but those are the ones I know because of a family member.

When choosing a detox method what are the pros and cons of Methadone vs Buprenex?

Methadone is more appropriate if you are using higher doses of opiates. Methadone is more appropriate during pregnancy. Methadone is more appropriate if you have chronic, severe pain. Buprenorphine is more appropriate if you want to eventually get off all drugs. It's easier to get off of Buprenorphine than to get off of Methadone. In the U.S., Buprenorphine can be prescribed by any physician who has been certified to prescribe it. Methadone, on the other hand, can only be prescribed (for opiate addiction) in special clinics. Thus, you can get Buprenorphine in a regular doctor's office (if the doctor is certified) rather than having to go to a special clinic. Some people prefer this, since when you go to a regular doctor's office nobody in the lobby knows you're a drug addict.

What pain meds can you take while on Suboxone?

basically none with the exception of Tramadol. Tramadol adds a interesting uplifting buzz, but no medication that makes you drowsy in any kind of way. If you're trying to get high, you can't unless you stop the suboxone and wait until the medication is out of your system (and by then you're sicker than hell) to be able to actually feel anything

Can you take lorazepam if you took suboxone today?

Suboxone has an opiate blocker as well as buprenorphine, so taking other opiates with it will cause strong negative effects in the user. Like an alcoholic on antibuse, any ingestion of normal opiates/opioids with suboxone will be very unpleasant for the ingestor. There is no reason to take buprenorphine along with Lortab, oxycodone, hydrocodone, morphine, methadone, etc as the primary function of suboxone is relief of opiate withdrawal symptoms. Taking opiates/opioids would, in theory, relieve withdrawal symptoms adequately and possibly produce the dissociative effect the addict is seeking. The other form of buprenorphine medication, known as Subutex, does not contain the opiate blocker, and therefore would not produce the same negative effects if the user ingested opiates/opioids with it, however, buprenorphine is EXTREMELY POTENT and should be used with caution, even if the user is experienced with opiate/opioid medications and/or heroin/opium.
