Unfortunately, as much as the plugs look alike, the circuits terminate in different positions, so are not compatible. They can even do harm, since power & data positions are reversed.
There is an Instructables.com lesson on hand making a custom cable that apparently works, but otherwise, you're stuck with the few docks designed for C & E series Sansas; such as those made by Sandisk, Timex & Altec Lansing. (Otherwise, you can get partial function on your stereo from the MP3 / audio-in 3.5" mini-plug jacks, of course.)
