I have been on Lamtical for 10 years and have had no side effects before now. I went in for my annual physical today and doc said my white blood cell count has been steadily going down. He didnt know what to make of it and referred to a hemotologist. This freaked me out. I feel great and am in great shape. So I immediately started searching the www. Low and behold I came across this study.

I dont know what the long-term prognosis is for me but there are much worse things that could have caused my problem. Breathing a sigh of relief...for the time being.
A decrease in white blood cells in the blood is known as leukopenia. Leukemia, chemotherapy and many medications can cause leukopenia. What does low white blood cell count mean
Numbness would not be a common side effect of Lamictal but we "never say never".
It absolutely DOES cause bloating and abdominal distension .
Can Lamictal or depakote cause false positive screening for opiates? I am not sure about it testing positive for opiates; however, Lamictal will show a positive reading on a PCP test. Until recently it was believed to be otherwise. I will provide the documented information and studies in a follow-up post.
That is called leukopenia.
Hemolysis can be caused by a variety of conditions such as Streptococcus, Enterococcus, Staphylococcus, Plasmodium, or genetic disorders.
A decline in the number of leukocytes (white BLOOD cells) circulating in the blood to fewer than 4,000 leukocytes per microliter of whole blood. The most common manifestation of leukopenia is NEUTROPENIA, a shortage of granulocytes called neutrophils. Most leukopenia is secondary to other health conditions a person may have, such as viral infections or cancers that involve the BONE MARROW, and circumstances, such as CHEMOTHERAPY. Numerous medications can cause leukopenia as an undesired SIDE EFFECT of treatment. In such situations the doctor will evaluate the relative value of the inherent risks in continuing or discontinuing the causative medication. Leukopenia lowers the body's ability to resist and fight INFECTION and when severe can allow life-threatening infections to invade. Frequent or unusual infections, especially persistent GINGIVITIS or periodontitis, may suggest leukopenia. Treatment targets any infection or other underlying cause.

My son has been taking Depakote and Lamictal together for 2-3 months and was just diagnosed with Nystagmus. I just started looking into this but when I get more answers I will post them.
Leukopenia is the medical term for decreased white blood cells.
SCID with leukopenia. Children with this form of SCID are lacking a type of white blood cell called a granulocyte.
