yes it can as it melts through the ground

yes, it can melt its way through solid rock.

at mount saint helens even solidified blocks of lava were observed pushing through previously solidified lava flows to the surface, ultimately rising several hundred feet in height. these were shown to be pushed up by steam pressure in the lava under them.
