Oral sex is known to be a potential vector for transmission of HIV, which causes AIDS. Sexual transmission can occur when infected sexual secretions of one partner come into contact with the genital, oral, or rectal mucous membranes of another so if a woman is infected, she can transmit HIV to the person performing oral. If the person giving oral is infected, they can transmit HIV to the receiving woman. It is somewhat less effective as means of transmission than normal intercourse and much less effective in transmitting HIV than receiving anal intercourse but there is a risk.
