I've suffered from recurring bacterial vaginosis for the last year and have continued to have unprotected sex with my man without anything transferring to him. Bacterial vaginosis is caused by a shift in your vagina's pH level - so anything can throw it off; semen, laundry detergent residue in your panties, body wash, etc. Men do not have to worry about their pH levels changing on/in their penis - which is why they cannot 'get' vaginosis. (Just be sure it IS bacterial vaginosis, because yeast infections CAN be transferred from a woman to man and vice versa). If you are afflicted by this awful, and I do mean AWFUL affliction, I suggest you not waste your time with the various antibiotic pills and creams the doctors will try to push on you - they never work. Instead, save your money and your health - go to a drugstore, purchase a vaginal douche kit, throw away the solution that's included (if any) in the kit and instead use a mixture of 75% warm water and 25% plain white vinegar. Douche lilke this every second day just before bed. It is odorless, pain-free, cheap and it WORKS every time. Also, if you tend to get vaginosis just before your period, douche every day for the entire week leading up to it. Again, it's caused by a shift in the vaginal pH level, and woman are more prone to these infections just prior to their periods because their pH level change so rapidly.

Yes, boys can get bacterial infections as well as girls. Though, boys and girls sometimes can only get bacterial infections that only affect their gender, while some bacteria infections affect both genders.

∙ 14y agoThe question seems a bit odd, but yes, men can have bacterial infections, and so can women. And so can pretty much everything else. There about 1600 species of bacteria and they are found in almost every environment whether a living substance or not.

Nephritis in men will not cause bacterial vaginosis in women. The two conditions are unrelated.
