Probably not I've tries with mine and it didn't work
Actually it depends on the hair straighteners you buy. However most of them use 40-75. However, the initial warm up can draw as many as 200 watts.
Some flat irons can cost as little as $15, but those are not necessarily the straighteners that are preferred by most. A tool that you will fall in love with the results it gives you can cost up to $200+. I prefer the Express Ion Smooth® 1.25 by Paul Mitchell. It is sometimes $200, but is usually on sale at most salon stores.
If you use heat protector spray then it doesn't make it as bad. But it depends on how hot your straightener's are. Below 200 degrees would probably be ok but above would burn your hair. Get a regular haircut (6-8 weeks) and you should be fine.
Generally, hair straighteners and curlers that are more expensive are designed to reach temperatures that curl/straighten more effectively, without doing a large amount of damage to your hair. For example, a straightener such as a ghd which only reaches 178 degrees is more effective and less damaging than a Remington straightener that reaches 200+ degrees.
