The 40 GB model is the worst fat PS3 and Amazon says they will give a $175 credit for trading a working one in excellent condition in and $200 for the 20 GB model. Even broken PS3s can go for $40 for parts and because they can be returned to Sony to be fixed. If you buy it used or from a shady guy.
