Polysporin consists of polymyxin b and bacitracin, two very potent antibiotics. Neosporin has the same ingredients but adds neomycin to the mix. Both are good antibacterials, but some people prefer Polysporin because neomycin can cause skin irritation in some people.
It can, as they're the same thing.
pretty much the same yes
No...triple antibiotic (neosporin) is bacitracin, neomycin, & polymixin B. Polysporin is bacitacin and polymixin B. Very similar though, just not identical!
is polytopic the same as polysporin
Neosporin is an antibiotic with three components...neomycin sulfate, polymixin B sulfate and bacitracin. If this combination is in ointment form, many times you will find it called "triple antibiotic ointment" or it's Trade name, Neomycin. Polysporin is a combination of two antibiotics, bacitracin zinc and polymixin B sulfate. By combining the three antibiotics, one may treat or prevent a wider range of bacterial infections. For more information see the Related Link. If you are allergic to penicillan, you should use Polysporin, instead of Neosporin to avoid potential hives.
Cold sores are caused by a virus, and polysporin is not active against viruses, so it won't work for cold sores.
Neosporin and Polysporin are never to be used on any body piercing, read the back of the tube. It clearly states not to be used on puncture wounds, a body piercing is a puncture wound. Neosporin contains Neomyacin and Polysporin contains Polymyacin both of those ingredients will cause issues with puncture wounds or body piercings. Most people will react to these ingredients in an adverse manner when it's introduced into the body. These are topical medications for surface injuries only.
I had a biopsy of a cyst on my index finger and I was told to use polysporin ointment twice a day to keep it moist. I dont have the polysporing instead i have the neosporin spray. If i use the neosporin spray instead will that do the job or will it hurt or damage the area? thanks for your help. Geraldine
Yes you can. it is an effective double anti-bacterial ointment. You can also use Neosporin which is a triple anti-bacterial.
Polysporin is an antibiotic ointment.
Yes, the only difference being that Neosporin contains an additional ingredient: Neomycin. While Neomycin is yet another effective anti-infection agent, many are allergic to it. So you must be careful if switching to Neosporin, especially if the patient has never used this before. Yes, the only difference being that Neosporin contains an additional ingredient: Neomycin. I would recommend you don't use Neosporin, Polysporin or anything like that on a ear piercing. Soap and water will do just fine. These products are not to be used on puncture wounds (read the tube). If the piercing is infected washing with diluted antibacterial soap and irrigating with water twice a day will make a big difference in about 24 to 48 hours.
Yes, you can also use A&D. You can buy it at CVS or Rite-Aid. It cost about the same amount as Neosporin.
Polysporin is an antibiotic cream or ointment. It is used to treat certain types of infections that may be caused by bacteria. Most of the times, it is the doctor that will recommend how to use Polysporin.
