Yes, nitrogen can hurt palm trees (Palmaceaefamily) if other nutrient needs are being ignored.

Specifically, nitrogen is a nutrient deficiency that needs to be corrected in palm trees that are houseplants or that grow in sandy soils. Otherwise, palm trees may be much more sensitive to deficiencies in potassium, manganese, magnesium, and iron and copper sulfates. Unnecessary applications or high levels of nitrogen overwhelm and weaken palms trees whose real needs are not being addressed.
