The term ''short-barreled rifle'' means a rifle having one or more barrels less than sixteen inches in length and any weapon made from a rifle (whether by alteration, modification, or otherwise) if such weapon, as modified, has an overall length of less than twenty-six inches. Federal FIrearms Act regulations prohibit any long-barreled firearm from having a barrel shorter than SIXTEEN inches.
State law may provide an even more stringent standard, but in no case is it allowable to violate the minimum overall length mandated by the Federal Firearms Act.A short barreled rifle is defined in the US Code, Title 18, Part I, Chapter, Sec. 921. as follows...(8) The term ''short-barreled rifle'' means a rifle having one or more barrels less than sixteen inches in length and any weapon made from a rifle (whether by alteration, modification, or otherwise) if such weapon, as modified, has an overall length of less than twenty-six inches.

I think large, heavy, expensive, custom made double barreled rifle. To the best of my knowledge, there was one handgun made in .600 Nitro Express, more as a curiousity than a usable handgun.
First of all,one is a rifle the other is a pistol depends on distance. Both effective at short range.LoL
Rifle chambered in one of the cartridges named Winchester Magnum- such as the .300 Winchester Magnum- or .300 Win mag for short.
Issue is not Alaskan law, but Federal law. You would be making what is called a "Short Barreled Rifle", regulated under the National Firearms Act. You must apply to the BATFE, and pay a one time $200 tax BEFORE making any such conversion. Failure to do so can result in a 10 yr prison sentence, a VERY large fine, and loss of your right to ever own ANY firearm.
Too broad to answer. At what range? Rifle, rimfire, pistol, revolver? In general, a heavy barreled target rifle (most are custom builds) in one of the 6mm target calibers would be the most accurate to about 600 yards, but other rifles such as the .338 Lapua will be more accurate at 1500 yards.
Gun is a very broad term, covering items from handguns to artillery pieces. A rifle is one type of firearm - more specifically, a long barreled firearm, designed to be fired from the shoulder, which has a barrel that has grooves cut into it (rifling, hence the name) to spin stabilise a projectile which is fired through it.
Under US law, a rifle must have a barrel that is at least 16 inches long, and an overall length of at least 26 inches. Rifles that have been shortened to less than this (sawn off) are legally called "short barreled rifles"- or abbreviated as SBS. These fall under the same group of laws that regulate machine guns- they must be registered with a Federal Agency (the BATFE) and a tax paid on the transfer of ownership of these from one person to another. Failure to do so can result in imprisonment for sevral years, and a very large fine.
