here is an experiment...dont use hotmail, then go to msn...that should answer you question
One can use the service MSN Hotmail Member Directory to find friends and family members. With that service one is able to seach and find hotmail users.
You must have a "hotmail" or a "live" email account to be able to use msn.
Yes it is. You can pretty much make up all the information for a hotmail account, and then use that account to access msn messenger.
Go to www.msn.com and there will be an sign that says ''Hotmail''. Click it and follow the instructions on how to get Hotmail. If you don't have an MSN account, it might ask you to sign up. Thats the hard way. Google hotmail and click on MSN Hotmail and it will bring you to hotmails main screen and click on sign up and give your info on you and there you go.
To use msn you need a windows live ID these can be made from existing email accounts or a new or can be created (i.e @hotmail, @msn @live). to do so visit this webpage http://get.live.com/getlive/overview
Hotmail has been around for over a decade. It is by far the most popular email used by Microsoft with millions of users worldwide. They have currently updated to use Outlook Express format.
Probably Facebook Chat. Facebook has over 500 million active users. And on any day over 50% of them will be using it. That puts daily active users at about 250 million. Microsoft claim 369 active users of Hotmail. Assume only 10% come on daily that puts MSN chat users at 37 million daily. Yahoo claim over 275 million email users. Assuming 10% of them use Yahoo messenger daily that's about 28 million users daily. Skype gives actual data of 42.2 million active users daily. All this data gives a estimate list of: 1) Facebook Chat with 250 million daily users 2) Skype with 42 Million daily users 3) MSN Messenger with 37 Million daily Users. 4) Yahoo Messenger with 28 Million daily users
MSN Messenger ended its chat service after Microsoft's acquisition of Skype. Microsoft is pushing for the transition for its users to use Skype messenger.
As of version 7.x of MSN Messenger for Mac - Microsoft still does not support video for consumer users with @hotmail, @live, or @msn accounts. Microsoft has demonstrated a beta of Messenger 8 for Mac that WILL include cross-platform video-chat capabilities. It's expected to be released later in 2009. There are alternatives to Messenger such as Adium and amsn that do support video. (See links below)
