Can Asymmetric digital subscriber loop be installed over a line that contains a fiber optic segment?
Traditional ADSL will only work over copper. There are newer services, like FiOS from Verizon that is technically ADSL but it runs over Fiber. I am a Provisoiner of Broadband Services (ADSL, Cable, T-1, Frame, EVDO, etc...) I run into Fiber issues all the time. Even if it is copper to your nieghborhood and then fiber, or vice versa, traditional ADSL will not work.

Let me add that the person who spoke of ADSL actually erred a slight bit because SDSL and VDSL also use copper to the site. While all three DSL services typically are trunked on optical fiber, the last mile is most often done in copper as that is what most structures have pulled up to the service drop.
