Cardboard without any tapes, plastics, glues, or dyed paper shells are completely fine toys and parrots and cockatoos alike will shred them gleefully. Don't be alarmed if they eat little pieces of it, either. Cardboard tubes like paper towel rolls, and boxes that contained food are believed to be safest and your bird will delight in tossing them around for hours. Like any special or new toy, they should be monitored when playing, but we give the birds at the rescue I volunteer at paper bags folded shut with cardboard rolls and colorful recycled paper bits glued together with a homemade sugar paste for them to tear apart and fling everywhere. You'd think it was birdie heaven.
