Can pugs have autism

I apologize ahead of time for the really long answer.

Autism is a complex neurological developmental disorder affecting communication, social skills and sensory processing. As it currently stands there are no definitive tests to properly diagnose autism and an autism diagnosis needs to be based off of observed symptoms. these symptoms are based on human communication, social structure and experiences and not on those of other animals.

so to determine of a dog can or does have autism there first must be a criteria for autism in canines that is based around the canine social and communication infrastructure. to create this one must have extensive knowledge of canine psychology, growth, development and learning. one must have a full understanding of how canines communicate and develop these communications skills, many impairments would have to be observed first by the breeder and must not be due to lack of proper socialization and training.

I am currently working on my own canine autism criteria but it is a criteria that is A very hard to fit and B requires an extensive history of the dog in questions behaviors and social interactions as far back as 3 weeks of age, ability to observe the dog in question.

I will post those later but a simple answer is no because autism is a human nuerodevelopemental disorder. the canine brain, communication, social communication development and social structure and even with proper criteria being written with out an extensive history of development, and impairments the are persistent despite proper socialization, training, health, nutrition and exercise daily it is frankly impossible to say.
