You should train it 3-4 weeks after birth, or it will do what it wants and end up beinng mean unless you love it.
"Loving" does have a lot to do with it, but 7-8 weeks in my experience is when pups best bond with humans -- training skill and experience play a large role. Up to that point, their mom can manage all the training they need. Then, some of us w/ 30+ years experience are going to be better suited to determine what activities on which to focus, when, and what to do next.
In many states minimum (dog's) age for taking home is 6 weeks which is when our kennel starts training working dogs. Then, it's play for the pup and techniques that will be later refined; it varies by breed, temperament, disposition, trainer and can be a few weeks of introducing technique to 9 months before heavy work outs up to a couple of years, depending on the bloodline, even within breeds.
Work with a trainer that knows what they're doing. Visit their facilities, ask how well they know your dog's breed, and work with someone with whom you're comfortable. Ask multiple Vets, friends, and go to at least a couple of shows where the dogs are asked to behave in the fashion for which you're looking. Then pick a trainer.
