Rabbits can stay in their hutch overnight, so long as they're safe. Predators are only one danger about keeping rabbits outside -- other overnight dangers include bad weather (see the related question below for details), and parasites and insects; in the day, when you let them out, there's also toxic plants, pollutions, pesticides, bacteria in the dirt, and things like that to think about. There are also people out there who would break into your yard to tease or even hurt your rabbit!

To protect your rabbit from predators, you need a very secure cage that other animals can't break into (including other people -- use a lock!). It helps to raise the cage off the ground. Chicken wire is very easy to rip through -- even a rabbit can rip through chicken wire (and cut himself up in the process). But, even if the predator can't get in, the rabbit is still at risk of stress -- rabbits can die of shock or heart attack just because a predator is stalking around outside the cage! So, you should provide something for the rabbit to escape and hide in -- like a box inside the hutch, or a part in the back of the hutch with no windows or bars so the predator can't see in.
