For most people with epilepsy their memory and ability to concentrate is not affected. Epilepsy only directly affects a person when they are having a seizure. For the majority of the time their epilepsy has no affect on them. If someone has a more severe case of epilepsy or are also suffering from another condition that affects the brain, then they would be likely to have more problems.

It depends on the type of seizure, but yes, it is common for people to lose their memory of the events immediately before and during a seizure after it has happened.

Permanent, long term memory loss though, not so much.

While someone is having a seizure they are semi-conscious, so they will not remember anything that happened during the seizure. They may remember feeling the seizure coming on, as most people get a warning feeling, known as an aura, before the seizure actually starts properly. Once the seizure is over, they will return to normal and remember that. They will normally know that they had a seizure. In the broader sense, many people who have epilepsy have very good memories in general. If someone has a severe kind of epilepsy, their brain may be affected in other ways and that could impact on other functions, such as memory. It would be different for each person.

While someone is having a seizure, they may be semi-conscious or unconscious and so will not be aware of what is happening and not remember it when they recover. They will know that they have had a seizure, but not remember what happened during it. Not all seizures will cause memory loss. Some very mild seizures will not result in someone losing any consciousness so they will remember everything.

Someone who has very serious seizures could damage their brain, or the seizures may be a result of damage to the brain caused by something like an accident. People like that may have memory problems generally, not just because of their seizures.

What does it look like if a hamster is having a seizure?

When mammals have seizures (of the grand mal type), they generally lose muscle control, causing them to lose balance and fall. Their muscles rapidly contract and relax, causing their limbs to straighten and spasm. Sometimes, but not always, they will also lose control of the bladder or bowels and will urinate or defecate as well. After the seizure is over (the postictal stage), there is generally a return to normalcy, with some confusion or reorientation, and then they continue about their business.
