No, it isn't safe for rabbits to eat popcorn. Here are some reasons why:

  • Rabbits can't digest corn hulls -- fresh hulls are the most dangerous, but even the broken cooked hulls on popcorn could lead to digestive impaction (a serious, even deadly condition).
  • Corn is unhealthy for rabbits -- high in carbs, and of no nutritional value at all. Chances are your rabbit's pellets has milled corn as an ingredient, so you really shouldn't give him or her any more to eat! If you want to share a treat with your rabbit, choose fresh fruit (just a bite or two!) like apple, strawberry, blueberry, pineapple, or papaya.
  • The rabbit could choke on the big squishy pieces.

No, rabbits shouldn't eat any processed human foods. Pretzels are too high in sugar, salt, and carbohydrates. If you want to give your rabbit a treat, choose fresh fruit or vegetables instead, although not just any fruit or vegetable because many are toxic. Treats should be strictly limited: too many can make a rabbit sick. Rabbits should mostly eat hay, with some pellets and leafy greens daily, and water. See the related questions below for more help.
