When one sibling has it only about 5% of other kids in the family get it. The incubation period is about 2 weeks so if several kids have it at once they probably got it from the same source rather than one giving it to the others.
If one person has strep, despite the fact that only about 5% of close contacts will get a full blown infection, over half of them will briefly become carriers and test positive on office based "rapid strep" tests. For this reason close contacts of people with strep with typical symptoms should be treated without testing due to an unacceptably high false negative rate while people who do not have symptoms should not be tested due to an unacceptably high false positive rate.

∙ 13y agoNo, strep b is NOT contagious. Strep b is found naturally in the digestive tract of healthy adults and in the vagina of healthy adult women. It is not an STD. It can make you very sick if it breaks the blood barrier and gets into your blood stream. It can cause pneumonia, sepsis and UTI. It also can be passed on to your baby during child birth so have your OBGYN or midwife test you for strep b before you give birth. It can make your baby very sick if not treated prior to birth.
