Most definitely typically you are put on amoxicillin due to an infection IE: strep throat, and while the amoxicillin is helping you to fight this infection your whole system is trying to help it along as well. Which in turn makes it forget that its trying to fight the herpes virus and presto you get an outbreak. If they are painful or itchy there are several things you can do to relieve symptoms at home. My personal favorite is an Epsom salt bath, the Epsom salt relieves itching and can help dry up sores or lesions. You can also try wearing loose fitting clothing, and cotton or no underwear to prevent chaffing or rubbing which will only make it worse. Also cold compresses can relieve pain and discomfort.

I'm not an expert, but I can attest to the fact that whenever I have taken naproxen sodium, it causes a herpes outbreak. I have since completely stopped taking it.
