Hello. Side effects that are possible through use of a tetracycline acne treatment are: sensitivity to sunlight, yeast infection (for women), nausea, abdominal cramps, discoloration of teeth (for a child 8 years or younger), abnormal skin discoloration, Sweet's syndrome (it looks like hives almost...red nodules on the skin which are very painful) and the treatment can also cause autoimmune disorders. It is recommended that pregnant women avoid this antibiotic because it can have toxic effects on bone development of an unborn child. I would suggest avoiding this treatment unless you have gone through your full medical history with your doctor. Good luck! The most recognized side effect of tetracycline is teeth staining. Hypersensitivity and pigment changes are others. Autoimmune problems and even something called Sweet's Syndrome have been reported.
I have been using Clearnow for about 3 months and honestly have not seen a big difference. The acne has been smaller but has not disappeared by any means. I'm waiting for my super sensitive skin to get used to the treatment and am still hoping it will eventually get better.
Some acne treatment products, which should actually work, can be found at the Mayo Clinic, which has also a webpage. The company Neutrogena has also some acne treatment products.
