It may depend on state, but in Texas you can fill out a form at the Dept. of Transportation stating that ownership of the car was transfered. It would help if you had a Bill of Sale, but a verbal agreement is still legal. The "buyer's remorse clause" doesn't apply to private transactions, either. To get the car out of the driveway, call the police dept. and tell them the new owner abandoned the vehicle. They'll tow it away in a few days. However, because you could be sued over the whole matter, it'd probably be best to consult a lawyer first.
