Go to www.harborfreight.com. They have a scan tool for about $50-60 of which can scan for and return the check engine code. You can then erase it with a push of a button. It is an OBD-II reader and works with only 1996 and newer models.
Alternatively, you can remove the negative battery cable and push the brake pedal for about thirty seconds. This works just as well, however this will remove you radio pre-sets and erase your computer's memory so it will have to re-learn your driving habits.
The code reader is simply much easier and worth the investment, especially if you will be working on your car yourself. Good Luck. John
