Christ Himself precludes the possibility that a Christian could be demon possessed. Using the illustration of a house, Jesus asks (Matthew 12:29) "..how can one enter into a strong man's house and spoil his goods, except he first bind the strong man? and then he will spoil his house." In the case of the demon possessed person, the strong man is obviously the devil. In a Spirit indwelt believer, the strong man is God. Christ's words lead us to the conclusion that, in order for demons to possess believers, they would first have to bind the one who occupies them, God Himself.
In the Gospel according to John, the Jews were accusing Jesus of being demon possessed (John 8:48). Jesus proclaims "I have not a devil, but I honor my Father..." What Jesus was saying is that being demon possessed and honoring God are mutually exclusive categories. The consistent teaching of The Bible and Jesus is that Christians cannot be controlled against their wills through demonic possession because "greater is he that is in you than he that is in the world" (1 John 4:4).

∙ 8y agoThe devil can only possess you if you are a believer in God. For everyone else, the devil does not exist. And there has never been a demonstrated instance of an atheist, Hindu, Buddhist or follower of any other religion ever being possessed by the devil.
