Depends on how you define sound. The ear is usually said to be able to hear sounds between 20-20 000 Hz. Lower or higher than that, and most of us won't hear it.

Then, of course you need a certain volume to pick it up.

The shape of the sound wave isn't particularly important, square, sine, saw tooth etc - as long as they are in range and volume we'll pick them up.

How is the shape of the outer ear useful?

It helps to direct sound into your ear. If you put your finger at the bottom of the ear, and then start to follow the path you will find that it is directed into the ear. It is like when you put your hand around you ear, this further improves the ability to catch soundwaves and direct them.

What frequencies can the human ear detect?

The human ear can detect frequencies ranging from about 20 Hz to 20,000 Hz.

What is the range of sound frequencies that the human ear can detect?

The human ear can detect sound frequencies ranging from about 20 Hz to 20,000 Hz.

Can a urine test detect an ear infection?

No, a urine test cannot detect an ear infection. Urine tests are used to detect substances in the urine, while ear infections are typically diagnosed through physical examination and possibly other tests like a tympanometry or a culture of ear discharge.

Where do soundwaves go after the auditory ossicles?

Soundwaves enter the outer ear (auditory canal) and strike the tympanic membrane (eardrum).Soundwaves vibrate off the eardrum and are transmitted by the ossicles to the oval window. These become fluid vibrations of the inner ear and are picked up by the mechanoreceptors, converted into an electrical impulse and sent to the brain for interpretation.

Is the human ear able to detect?

No

Which part of the vibrates when soundwaves hit it?

The membrane that vibrates and transmits the vibrations is called the tympanic membrane or the eardrum. It is the divider between the external and middle chambers of the ear.

What frequency can the human ear detect?

The human ear can typically detect frequencies ranging from 20 Hz to 20,000 Hz. This range is known as the audible frequency range.

How do we detect sound?

Sound is detected by our ears, which consist of three main parts: the outer ear, middle ear, and inner ear. When sound waves enter the ear canal, they cause the eardrum to vibrate, which in turn moves the tiny bones in the middle ear. These bone movements are then transmitted to the cochlea in the inner ear, where the vibrations are converted into electrical signals that are sent to the brain for processing, allowing us to perceive sound.

What can the human ear detect?

The human ear can detect sound waves within the frequency range of about 20 Hz to 20,000 Hz. This range is commonly referred to as the audible range. Sounds below this range (infrasound) and above this range (ultrasound) are typically not detectable by the human ear.
