From what I can gather, you need 2.6 times more vyvanse than adderall so if you were honestly taking 60mg of adderall, theoretically you'd need to take a whopping 200mg of vyvanse to equal the power. I more so assume that he's one: trying to make more money by prescribing the newer more expensive pill. Two: he might be trying to curb possible abuse in the area, or trying to make a healthier choice by trying to fight personal dependency by using less powerful amphetamines over a longer time.
