What is the difference between sperm and egg?

Sperm is a male gamete and an egg is a female gamete. In plants when the male gametophyte undergoes meiosis it produces four sperm cells. When the female gametophyte goes through meiosis it makes one egg cell and three polar bodies. When the process of fertilization occurs in angiosperms (flowering plants) there is double fertilization. Double fertilization is when one sperm fertilizes the egg and another fertilizes a polar body so that in the seed that develops there is the embryo (fertilized egg), and the endosperm (fertilized polar body, nutrition source for embryo). In animals, eggs are much larger, non-motile, and have a full complement of organelles. They have a larger food store than sperm. Sperm are smaller, flagellated so they can swim, and really only have DNA and mitochondria to power the flagella. Sperm has protein in it's head to dissolve the egg's cell membrane.

Do female sperm live longer than male sperm?

This depends upon the environment. If the male ejaculates into the air, articles of clothing, etc the sperm will die pretty soon. If the male ejaculates into a female, it can last up to three days, sometimes longer but not usually. This is because a warm and moist place is a prime survival environment for sperm.

How does a sperm really look in real life?

Sperm look like tiny torpedoes with a long tail that moves like a wagging tail. It also has a ring of organelles near the head which are mitochondria. These are the drivers that make the tail move. They are much smaller than the egg and contain mostly the DNA that the father gives to make a zygote. If an egg were 8.16 ft in diameter, then the sperm would be three feet.

Calves can suckle from females other than their mothers. Females generally have birth intervals of three to six years between calf birth.

What do sperm cells divide into?

Sperm cells don't actually divide. What they WERE divides, and what they will BECOME upon fertilization divides, but not a sperm cell.
