Yes, thyroxine and dessicated thyroid can be taken together.

The thyroid glands in humans releases two kinds of thyroid hormone - thyroxine (T4) and a less-active form called tri-iodothyronine (T3). Dessicated thyroid (often called by the brand-name "Armour Thyroid") contains both these hormones, in a ratio of approximately 2.5-to-1 (T4:T3).

There are basically two opinions on taking supplemental thyroid hormone among physicians in the U.S. The mainstream medical opinion is that a patient who lacks sufficient thyroid hormone can be adequately treated by giving T4 alone. They reason that it is the more active form anyway, and that there is ample evidence to suggest that T4 is converted to T3 in the body.

An alternative opinion has developed, however - largely among those who identify themselves as alternative/complementary healthcare practitioners - that T4 alone is often not enough. They advocate the use of a combination T4/T3 supplement like dessicated thyroid in order to more closely resemble the function of a properly-functioning thyroid gland.

In some patients, however, the ratio found in desiccated thyroid is not exactly right for a particular patient, and an addition of T4 (thyroxine) or T3 (triiodothyronine) may be prescribed in order to properly balance that patient's thyroid hormone levels.

What Foods help secrete more thyroxine?

I am a physician with 35 years experience and I have never heard or read in the recognized medical literature about any foods that might help secrete thyroxine.People who have insufficient thyroxine usually have hypothyroidism (do not secrete enough thyroid hormone)for a variety of reasons, and usually need to see an endocrinologist or "hormonal gland specialist" .They will usually be prescribed thyroid hormone medication to be taken by mouth.

Can levothyroxine and zomorph be taken together?

It is OK to take an antidepressant and a thyroid medicine together so long as your doctor has written prescriptions for them. It is possible that a low thyroid could be responsible for some of your feelings of depression, actually. Taking the thyroid medicine might end up letting you cut back on the Zoloft.

What is a good natural thyroid remedy?

Problems with the thyroid usually consist of two types known as hyperthyroidism and hypothyroidism. The thyroid affects the metabolism and issues with the thyroid will either speed it up or slow it down. Those who suffer with a thyroid condition can counteract the symptoms by adjusting their diet. Processed foods and refined carbohydrates should be avoided and meals high in vitamin A should be consumed regularly, along with vegetables, fruits and whole-grains. As additions to a good diet, iodine and zinc can be taken to support a healthy thyroid and keep levels balanced.

I am on medication now to replace my thyroid and like I said I am a totally different person now since my thyroid was removed. But I want to get the real facts how the brain affects thyroid medication or the thyroid please.

Can you take Benadryl and thyroid medication together?

You cannot take any other medication within thirty minutes of taking levothyroxine - also nothing to eat or drink in that time. Levothyroxine must be taken by itself. However, after that time is up you may take a Benadryl if you need to. Just remember it will make you sleepy.

Can you perform ct scan of thyroid gland?

If there is a need to scan the thyroid gland, most of the time it can be done using an ultrasound scan. If further testing is needed, sometimes a doctor will order what's called a thyroid scan. A thyroid scan is a picture of the thyroid gland. This is taken after a small dose of a radioactive isotope, that is normally absorbed by the thyroid cells, has been injected or swallowed. This helps a physician determine if a growth on the thyroid is an active part of the thyroid tissue or not.
