Nowhere is safe from tornadoes. Tornadoes can climb mountains. There was a tornado on 12,000 foot mountain once.

Hills or mountains do not offer tornado protection. One of the most dramatic cases that shows this was the F-4 tornado that hit the Teton Wilderness about 45 miles northeast of Jackson, Wyo., on July 21, 1987. As noted by Thomas P. Grazulis in his book Significant Tornadoes 1680-1991, the tornado went over mountains as high as 10,000 feet, blowing down mostly mature lodgepole pines from 80 to 100 feet tall. Tornadoes can go up and down hills.. The tornado comes from the sky not the ground.. Clouds can go over hills so can a tornado just as long as theres enough moisture and rotation. Just because your on a hill does not mean your safe.
