There are two tectonic plates pushing against each other underwater. One is trying to go under the other. There is so much pressure, and the one that isn't trying to go under the other 'pings' and all of the pressure is released. As they are underwater, a few cubic miles of water are pushed out of the way, firing them towards land. This is a tsunami.
Hope this helps(:
Yes a tsunami can be caused through many causes apart from an Earthquake such as:
Yes. It can be caused by a volcano erupting underwater or any sort of time when the tectonic plates move.
yes some are caused by landslides ,earthquakes and volcano eruptions
no. tsunamis are caused by earthquakes or movement below water. tsunamis are basically giant waves.
No. Tsunamis can be trigger by landslides, volcanic eruptions, and meteor impacts as well.
It happened by an earthquake. This earthquake was caused by the plates under the sea bed being forced under one another. Then after so much pressure one plate sprung up 15 metres and caused the earthquake.
The 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami was triggered by a magnitude 9.2 earthquake off the coast of Sumatra. The earthquake occurred at a subduction zone where the Indian Plate slides under the Eurasian Plate. These plates had snagged and, over the course of centuries, built up stress. On December 26, 2004 they slipped, causing the earthquake. As they slipped, portions of the sea floor moved up while others moved down. This displaced large amounts of seawater, triggering the tsunami.

It varies on the distance from land that the earthquake struck (causing the tsunami waves.) Tsunami waves can hit for a few minutes or hours. The tsunami that struck Japan after the Sendai earthquake in 2011 lasted for an hour. See related links for more information.
Avoid falling objects then quickly move to a high point in case there is a tsunami.
so that we can prepare in case something really bad happens like an earthquake or something.
Japan is right on the boundary between two plates of the Earth's crust. In this case, one plate is moving over the other one. The earthquake was caused by one plate suddenly jumping up several feet, which pushed a whole big lot of water. That water moved out in all directions, which makes it a tsunami.

Earthquake is a natural phenomenon or calamity. For now, there is no solution yet. However, there are safety measures that should be done during earthquake. 1. Keep Calm 2. Squat walk while covering your head with something or with your hands. 3. Find a place away from building that will possibly collapse, posts, and trees, or find an open area. 4. If you live near the sea, evacuate for your safety to avoid tsunami, if in case it should happen.

Earthquakes don't come in "types"; but there are a number of ways of how they are caused. In this case, the Japan 2011 earthquake happened when the pacific plated shifted, causing a tremendous amount of energy to be released and resulting in the earthquake and tsunami.

Japan is facing a tremendous natural disaster. It can be said in a more easy words as one+one free. Japan which lies in an archipelago(chain of islands) is prone to earthquake. Consequently, the buildings in Japan have been made to withstand the tremors. However, this time the earthquake was in land as well as sea. In sea, it resulted in tsunami. The Japanese were not prepared for these calamities at such a vast extent. The tsunami has harmed the nuclear reactors which work on the radioactive processes, which if left in open can cause massive destruction as was the case in green mile island, Chernobyl.
just run away from that place
