Yes.

The vagina is self-cleaning - discharge flushes out excess bacteria, the vagina also has an acidic pH to kill-off 'bad' bacteria while allowing 'good' bacteria to thrive.

Anything chemical near your genitals can effect vaginal pH, soaps also can't tell the difference between 'good' and 'bad' bacteria so kill it all, thus causing imbalance in healthy bacteria. Tampons contain various chemicals, also while in use they prevent vaginal cleaning while allowing bacteria the perfect place to thrive. Both soaps and tampons pose very high risk of vaginal infections such as Bacterial Vaginosis, this causes a fish odour - as BV is a bacterial infection it requires antibiotics to treat, if you have symptoms of BV see your doctor.

Only ever wash with water, and switch from tampons to menstrual cups.

Yes, anything chemical near your vagina or vulva can cause bad odour or lead to vaginal infections.Your vagina has a delicate pH which is thrown-off by soaps and other chemicals like in scented tampons.

Tampons can always cause bad odour and infections due to their negative effect on vaginal hygiene.

Do tampons cause burning while urinating?

No, not usually.Tampons go into the vagina so don't come in contact with the urethra where urine comes from, although tampons can cause irritation around the vaginal opening due to friction or sensitivities to chemicals within some brands, which can sting if urine flows over that area while urinating.

Why are you cramping after using a tampon on a light day?

There are a few reasons why tampons may increase menstrual cramps;Tampons can expand into your cervix.By absorbing fluids tampons 'tug' on vaginal walls.Tampons can cause vaginal ulceration.Tampons can contain chemicals that cause bad reaction. In this case the tampon had more of a drying effect on the vaginal tissues causing more 'tugging' as it was drying out your vagina, it may have also caused ulceration. You need to be more careful, tampons shouldn't be worn with light flow.

If you are a virgin can you wear tampons and not get cervical cancer?

Yes, you can wear tampons. The vagina of a virgin is absolutely no different to that of a non-virgin so there is no reason why a virgin should avoid tampon use - although tampons are not recommended to pre-teens or teens given higher risks of TSS, pads or menstrual cups are best. Tampons don't cause cervical cancer, although some brands of tampons like Tampax or Playtex can contain dioxin which increases cancer risks, they do not directly cause cervical cancer. If worried use organic cotton tampons like Natracare or Emerita, sponge tampons like Jade & Pearl, menstrual cups or softcups - all are much safer options.

Could having a cyst on your cervix make it painful to wear a tampon?

Yes, a cyst on your cervix could make it painful to wear a tampon. Tampons can hit the cervix as generally the cervix will sit much lower in the vagina during menstruation. Tampons also can expand into the cervix as they fill-up, lengthways expanding tampons such as Playtex are especially likely to cause this problem. Chemicals in rayon tampons like Tampax, Playtex, and Kotex may also irritate the cervix.

Can continuous use of tampons cause vaginitis?

There's no such thing as a safe tampon - there are always health risks due to effect on the vagina, they're self-tested and self-regulated so there are health concerns with commercial brands too.Tampons dry-out vaginal tissues causing splitting and ulceration which can contribute to vaginitis, they allow bacterial growth while preventing vaginal cleaning so increase risks of vaginal infections, and commercial tampons may contain hundreds of chemicals that could cause irritation. If using tampons over safer options like pads or cups it's important to only use them during your period, change regularly, do not use with light flow or overnight, also alternate with pads to allow your vagina a chance to heal and clean itself after tampon use. Ideally use organic cotton tampons.

Can you wear tampons when you have discharge and not a period?

No, never use tampons when not menstruating.Tampons are dry and absorbent, with no menstrual flow tampons will dry-out vaginal tissues resulting in the vaginal walls becoming damaged and ulcerated - this occurs whenever tampons are used but damage will be more severe when using tampons without any flow at all. This damage can not only cause discomfort but gives TSST-1 toxins responsible for TSS a more direct route to the bloodstream, thus using tampons before menstruation increases TSS risks.Discharge is how your vagina cleans itself, it flushes out dead cells, dirt and bacteria in order to keep your vagina clean and healthy - it is not a good idea to prevent this self-cleaning function, particularly by giving bacteria a porous warm and moist environment such as a tampon.

Can tampon cause constipation?

No, tampons cannot cause constipation - tampons cannot effect your digestive system. You can experience constipation during menstruation due to hormonal effects on your digestive system.

Why would someone feel sharp pains in their pelvic area while using tampons?

Tampons can increase menstrual cramps if they expand into your cervix - if you have a short vaginal canal and use lengthways expanding tampons this will be worse. Tampons also damage vaginal tissues, if using rayon tampons that are too high an absorbency they may cause tears. If you're sure tampons are the cause of this then use pads or cups instead, they're safer anyway.

Can you use tampons while treating thrush with cream?

No, tampons should not be used during vaginal infection. Your vagina has a very delicate balance of bacteria naturally occuring that keep the vagina healthy, the acidic pH of the vagina kills 'bad' bacteria while allowing the 'good' bacteria that help keep yeast under control to thrive. Tampons can effect vaginal pH so in turn effect normal bacterial balance, they also allow massive bacterial overgrowth and prevent vaginal cleaning - tampons are a major cause of vaginal infections, using tampons when you already have an infection can make it worse, also if flora is off-balance it is more likely that the bacterium responsible for TSS is also present. You can use pads (although it's best to avoid commercial pads such as Always or Kotex as they prevent air-flow and contain chemicals which can allow increase in bacteria and yeast - best to use cloth pads like Lunapads or Gladrags), softcups, or menstrual cups. Tampons are best avoided.

Does menstrual blood itself cause TSS?

No, it's not menstrual blood that causes TSS. TSS is caused when certain bacteria multiply and start producing TSST-1 toxins, these toxins enter the bloodstream via mucus membranes and tissue damage, once in the body if a person lacks immunity the TSST-1 toxins overwhelm the immune system. Tampons provide the perfect environment for bacteria to thrive and as they are not sterile they may introduce foreign bacteria into the vagina, by holding flow in contact with the vagina it effects vaginal pH (normally acidic to kill off harmful bacteria), and tampons prevent the vagina from cleaning itself. Tampons also damage vaginal tissues giving these toxins responsible for TSS a more direct route into the bloodstream.

Dose putting in a tampon hurt?

Using tampons shouldn't hurt, although it can be uncomfortable.Tampons can be uncomfortable because they dry-out the vagina and because they can expand into the cervix so increase menstrual cramps. As long as you're relaxed and insert tampons correctly they shouldn't hurt, if you're tensed-up tampon insertion may be painful as you may have to force the tampon into the vagina and if not inserted high enough muscles will push against the tampon as you move. Make sure you're using lowest absorbency for your flow too, if your flow isn't heavy enough then tampons will dry-out the vagina more and friction will cause small vaginal tears.

Why do tampons absorb water in a pool?

Cause they're made to absorb moisture.
