You will also need the proper tools and equipment like a vacuum pump, gages and a torch along with the ability to silver solder.
If you are comfortable with that - have at it. I suggest you have a reputable contractor check it out first. It may not be the compressor at all. Repair may be as simple as replacing a relay or cleaning contactors and the contractor should warranty any parts he installs.
